Focus:
Laboratory is designed for the observation of microstructure, surface changes and fractography observations of a wide range of materials from macroscale (10x magnifications) and microscale (~1000x) using conventional light microscopy up to nanometer-resolution in a combination with confocal and light interferometry microscopy. It is based on conventional inverted light microscopy in bright and dark fields, polarized light and differential interference contrast. Three dimensional topography is obtained by confocal microscopy and/or optical imterferometry. Additional information on the local chemical bonds can be obtained from the optical measurements combined with Raman spectrometry and separate Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) observations at very high magnifications.
